How the Pearson Square Works
The Pearson Square (or Pearson's Square) is a simple and effective tool for balancing two feed ingredients to achieve a desired nutrient level, usually crude protein. It is widely used by farmers and nutritionists when a complex computer formulation is not available.
The Calculation Process
- Place the target protein percentage in the center of the square.
- Place the protein content of your two ingredients on the left corners.
- Subtract diagonally (always subtract the smaller number from the larger one).
- The results on the right corners represent the "parts" of each ingredient needed.
- Sum the parts and calculate the percentage ratio.
